Selecting the Perfect Bedhead Height: Tall vs. Short
When it comes to certain things in the bedroom, size definitely matters… such as selecting the perfect sized bedhead 😉. The height of your bedhead can significantly impact the overall look and feel of your sleeping space, but how do you decide which one is right for you?
Let's explore when to go taller or shorter for your fabulous new bedhead and uncover some decorating dos and don'ts along the way.
When to Choose a Taller Bedhead:
High Ceilings
If your bedroom boasts high ceilings, a standard-sized bedhead might appear dwarfed by the grandeur of the room. This is where a tall bedhead shines.
It's not just a matter of filling vertical space; it's about creating a sense of balance and aesthetics so when you walk into the room, your gaze will naturally be drawn upwards. The tall bedhead acts as a visual anchor, anchoring the room and providing a sense of cohesion. It's like adding the final brushstroke to a beautiful canvas.
Statement Piece
A tall, striking bedhead is not just a piece of furniture; it's a work of art in its own right. Invest in a statement piece that transforms your bedroom, it's more than just functional; like an exquisite sculpture in a museum, it becomes the focal point of the room.
Luxury and Comfort
It's a lazy Sunday morning, and you want to snuggle up with a good book or binge-watch your favourite TV series. You need a comfortable and supportive spot, right?
Think of a tall bedhead as your built-in cosy reading nook. It's a comfortable and supportive surface for leaning back with your favourite book or enjoying a Netflix marathon (read: Bed Rotting). No need to pile up pillows; your bedhead becomes your cushioned sanctuary!
When to Choose a Shorter Bedhead:
Low Ceilings
In rooms with low ceilings, a shorter bedhead is the secret to achieving an open, airy, and visually expansive feel. Instead of feeling confined by the ceiling height, you can create an illusion of spaciousness.
The beauty of a shorter bedhead is that it doesn't draw attention upwards, but rather lets your eyes explore the breadth of the room. It visually raises the 'ceiling' of your space, making it feel more inviting and less cramped.
Minimalist Aesthetics
The scenario: You have a deep appreciation for modern design principles, where 'less is more’ and you prefer a clean, uncluttered, and sleek look in your bedroom. If this sounds like you, then a shorter bedhead is the perfect fit for your bedroom.
Shorter bedheads can create a clean canvas that allows your minimalist decor to shine. Your room appears uncluttered, It's like a sophisticated backdrop that allows your carefully selected decor items to pop, yet without going unnoticed.
Ease of Decor
If you're a fan of art, mirrors, or shelving as decor elements, you may want to adorn the wall space above your bed with these design features. Shorter bedheads offer more wall space above them, making it easier to decorate without overwhelming the room.
A shorter bedhead also provides versatility without constraints for those that like to change their room's decor frequently or showcase your personal style with various wall decor.
Extended Bedheads
If you like the extra wide extended bedhead look that encompasses your bedside tables and perhaps even stretches to the edges of the room, then a shorter bedhead is the way to go. This is a decidedly contemporary look that is here to stay. Including built in light fittings, switches and power points means you are set up for all your needs! It’s a great executive look.
Other points to consider:
Size of your bed
The size of your bed can also come into play when it comes to the height of your bedhead. If you have a super king bed, or a cali king, then often they look proportionally better a bit taller, than say a double bed. Otherwise it can look a bit mingy which would be such a shame to do that to your beautiful new bedhead!
Testing it out
We like to suggest that you mark out your proposed bedhead dimensions above your bed with some masking tape or bluetack and string, then pop back into place all your pillows and cushions and stand back and see how it feels. Perhaps leave the tape up for a day or two and look at it at different times of the day. This should really give you a clear idea of what height feels right for you, and your room.
At the end of the day choosing the right bedhead height is a personal decision, and it should align with your room's dimensions and your stylistic preferences. Our standard and tall options at Wink cater to various needs and styles, ensuring that your bedhead not only fits but also perfectly enhances your space.
Remember, the perfect bedhead is the one that makes YOUR bedroom feel like YOUR sanctuary. Whether you choose a tall or short bedhead, make sure it reflects your style and helps you relax in comfort.
